It’s another super busy day in my life but my need for some new tunes is consuming my brain so time for a quick break and a little look into QUAERY’s new 3-song EP ‘Until The Sun Stopped Glowing’.
This quick release starts with “Can I Take Off My Coat” and I couldn’t help but take a deep breath as this track took over my house. I don’t know for the word for the style that is the beginning of this track but I was captivated. Layered electronic-tinged vocals kick things off before a crystal clear piano part takes over and catapults the song into QUAERY’s distinct sound. Silky smooth, calming yet with no shortage of heart and soul, this opening track hit the spot for me and really helped to level me out during such a crazy day. Much like the title would suggest, I loved how this track literally gives you a chance to step into QUAERY’s world. Without any sign of chaos or rush, I loved how every note and every word of this track is intentional and has a reason for being where it is. I hope this is an element that reigns supreme throughout the other two tracks.
“We Bought A Boat” continues with the intentional note and word placement and the overall calming sound. I love the storytelling that comes through loud and clear in the vocals. With each word hitting so clearly and beautifully, it was impossible to listen to this track and not fall deeper and deeper in love with each passing word. Although there is a piano line that dances behind the vocals, this song, overall, has a very serious vibe to it yet somehow doesn’t feel as heavy as other ballad-like tracks like this tend to do. I wouldn’t go so far as to call this a playful track because, again, it is very serious and intentional, but there’s just something so freeing about the beauty within this song making it an instant favorite of mine.
Even though I don’t want this journey with QUAERY to end, “It Would Always Be You” ends it in the best way possible. Another just absolutely stunning show of passion and heart, this final track is one that tugged at my heartstrings. From the instrumentation to the words, there was just something so lovely and heartwarming about this song that I couldn’t help but just sit back and take it all in, one word at a time.
I really wish I had more to say about this three-song EP but I was honestly just lost for words as the sound of QUAERY took over my house. This EP is less than fifteen minutes long which, although not long enough, was the perfect length of time to just get me level again amidst my insane Wednesday I have going today and I can not thank these guys enough for that. Come on, I know we are all busy but I’m sure you can find an extra fifteen minutes in the day to check this out and, from the bottom of my heart, I urge you to do just that.
