I will not apologize for constantly going down a pop-punk rabbithole. It’s just what I love and what seems to speak to me more than anything else. Case in point– Old Friends’ track “Statelines”.

I mean, right off the bat, Old Friends nails it. With an energetic and almost optimistic sense in the instrumentation and then somewhat whiny and angsty yet perfect vocals, how can you not fall in love with this track! What I like most about this is there are moments that lean a bit more into the punk vein of things and others that lean a bit more pop. Although the different moods ore distinct, when you really dive into them, they are fairly subtle as nothing in the track really shifts all that much to provide these changes other than maybe a vocal styling or the fallout of the guitars. It’s just so well polished and presented.

“Statelines” is one of those songs that instantly made me want to catch Old Friends live. Being that they are from New York and seem to be a fairly new band to the scene, it may be a bit before I get to see them up here in the Twin Cities but that won’t stop me from listening to this track (and their other music) on repeat while pretending to be watching them live in my mind.
