13 years ago, Junket released “Weapon of Choice” on their EP of the same name. 13 years ago, I had no clue who Junket was. Today is the day that my eyes have been opened to this band and although it has been thirteen years since this song has come out, that doesn’t mean it’s any less worthy of your attention.
Obviously I can’t tell you how this song would have hit thirteen years ago as I can barely remember what I did last week let alone over a decade ago but I can tell that this band was apparently wise beyond their age. There’s something modern about this track but with a classic twist. There are moments that are very pop-punk a la the early 2000s era but also moments that have something a bit edgier to them that brings me back to the alt rock vibe of the late 90s. It’s catchy and, vocally, absolutely stunning. I mean, it’s really the vocals that drew me into this song. I was instantly reminded of the drama of bands like Treaty of Paris and Alien Ant Farm as the words flew by in this song. I know those two bands have nothing in common but, if you are familiar with them and then listen to “Weapon of Choice”, I promise it will make sense.
Junket doesn’t seem to be the most active band out there and, from what I can tell, have been a bit dormant since their single “Red Handed” which dropped back in 2021 but, again, none of that changes the fact that this is a hell of a band that you should really check out right now.
