There’s something about the name of this band that really drew me in. Miranda and the Beat– honestly, it’s not super flashy or anything like that yet somehow it caught my eye and, consequently, upon pressing play on “Concrete”, my ear.
I don’t typically dive deep into music videos but I feel like the video for “Concrete” really only enhances this two minute and forty-second long song. There’s nothing specific in the video as it’s mostly just different clips but the images that they show along with the way it matches the track is just absolutely perfect. Saying that the song is two minutes and forty-seconds is a bit of a stretch as the first nearly minute of the song is a sample from something that I truly did not recognize but it also adds a little something something. This intro sets the scene for what turns into a uniquely creepy and eerie yet intense song. Right off the bat, I want to compare this song to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs but that just doesn’t do the intensity of this song justice. There’s something just a bit more chaotic about Miranda and the Beat’s sound than what you get from Yeah Yeah Yeahs. With that intensity and chaos blended up with their straight-up rock n’ roll vibe, Miranda and the Beat is definitely a band to watch and “Concrete” is definitely a song to hear.
