I am absolutely struggling today. A mixture of a hangover, still being sick, and mundane weather has me wishing I was anywhere but at the office yet, here I am. Doing my best to just stay awake at this point and it hasn’t been easy. Per usual, I’m hoping that checking out some new music could help hype me up so let’s get into it!
Everything I was sent about DOWEL was in Spanish. I could only decipher certain words like festivals and band names from the information given but, like I always say, it doesn’t matter if you know anything about a band or can understand the lyrics, it’s about how the music hits you and “CPR” from DOWEL hit me hard and perfectly. The perfect blend of angst and aggression plays perfectly against the almost rap-metal styled vocals that come in and out giving way to subtle breakdowns and epic clean notes that are held longer than you may expect. Really, this song could be considered hard rock at times but the metal influence is real and keeps this from being just a straight up hard rock track. You also get a bit of a post-hardcore influence when it comes to the writing in this song. Long story short, if you like things heavy yet like to keep it fresh, “CPR” from DOWEL is the track for you.
