Girl at the Rock Shows

I have officially hit that post-lunch early-afternoon slump. My eyelids are heavy and the thought of just kicking my feet up onto my desk and taking a quick snooze is definitely tempting but, like usual, I have too much work to get done to just give into this slump. Thankfully, the next song I have to share with you today is “Love & Hate” from Cheers! and if this doesn’t shake you out of that post-lunch early-afternoon slump, I’m not sure anything will.

With accordion, whistles, and flutes scattered throughout this track, it would be so easy to just call Cheers! a Celtic punk band but it’s so much more than that. There’s a folksy gypsy-like vibe to this track in particular that instantly reminded me of Gogol Bordello but there’s also a very punk feeling to the lyrics and the way they are presented. Sure, call Cheers! a Celtic-punk band but keep in mind that it’s so much more than that. This song has a huge sound without becoming overwhelming at any point. Although there are a million elements and instruments throughout the song, there was never a point where I felt like it became muddy or I was having a hard time hear a particular part. The organization of this track, like the composition, is absolutely brilliant and will definitely land Cheers! on your radar.
