I will always be a sucker for a song that is described as “a love letter to the pop-punk music I grew up listening to” so, naturally, I was drawn to Tanner J. Royal’s new song “Circles”. Beyond that description, this is just one of those “too good to not share” kind of songs.
“Circles” is absolutely drenched in passion which makes sense when you think about the subject matter. I feel like some of us joke about it but there was a whole generation that grew up in the early 2000s pop-punk scene and I feel like that scene definitely made us who we are today. That’s dramatic, I know, but that’s the reminder I got as I let this song play and take over my heart. Although this is definitely a pop-punk jam, there is something a bit more indie-pop leaning about the song that makes it accessible for those who didn’t grow up in the scene or don’t have the same soft spot for it. “Circle” is a beautiful track and Tanner J. Royal has a truly stunning voice and way with words. Long story short, this is one of those songs that is best enjoyed by just listening to it and letting it take you over rather than trying to analyze it like I did so just sit back and enjoy “Circles”!
