I have never heard of The Original Caste or their song “ONE TIN SOLDIER” but I love what the Snorts have done with this track. It not only makes me want to dig into The Original Caste, but it also has me falling head over heels for the Snorts.
“ONE TIN SOLDIER” is a song from the 1960 by the Canadian pop group The Original Caste. It is a counterculture era anti-war song that, even decades later, is still relevant. Although I can’t compare this version to the original as I have never heard said original, I can tell you that I love the energy that the Snorts bring to this song. It’s punky and fast but not super aggressive or in your face. In fact, there’s almost a bit of tenderness that comes through this song that I found to be super sweet and help deliver the message behind the track. I think the best comparison I could make here would be that this sounds a bit like Me First and the Gimme Gimmes but it comes with a more serious tone to it rather than the campy fun that Me First tends to throw in their songs. Whether you know the original track or not, the Snorts’ cover of “ONE TIN SOLDIER” is more than worth a listen today.
