I feel like it’s time for a curveball. I only call “Silk and Satin” from Trapper Schoepp a curveball because the style is so vastly different from what I typically share out but, full disclosure, I’ve been a huge Trapper Schoepp fan for a long time so I am truly honored to be sharing this newish song of his with you today.

There’s a lot to unpack with this song. First, it was recorded at Johnny Cash’s history cabin. Second, the story is of a drag queen living a double life in New York City and a love interest that they meet on their journeys. Neither of these things affect the song or how it comes across but I feel like giving you those little tidbits just helps add a sense of depth to an already deep song. What I’ve always loved about Trapper and his music is the storytelling and you get plenty of that here. His silky-smooth yet somehow weathered at the same time vocals are the perfect kind of folk music. It’s folk music for people who don’t like folk music. I truly believe that because, well, I’m not a folk music but the second I heard this song, I had to stop everything and instantly got lost in the music. Don’t “Silk and Satin” off if you don’t like chill folksy music and, for the love of God, don’t write Trapper Schoepp off. I don’t care if you’re the most metal of metalheads. Trapper has a gorgeous sound and a story tell and is more than worth your attention on a cozy day where you just want to feel some comfort.
