It’s been a hot minute since I’ve reviewed anything since Kat and the Hurricane. The last work I did for them was a review of their ‘The Sorry EP’ and, although it’s been years, their band name is not one that has left me mind so I was thrilled when their new single “Caffeine & Alcohol” came across my desk.
The synth sound that kicks this track off will instantly catch you whether you like the sound of a synthesizer or not. It’s loud deep but has a brightness attached to it that draws you in before the signature vocals of this band takeover and instantly whisk you away into Kate and the Hurricane’s world. There’s something very theatrical about this band but also something ridiculously catchy. Think Panic at the Disco meets Fitz and the Tantrums but with a bit more angst and a bit more of an edge to it. The lyrics of this song are just as deep as the layers in the track giving you, the listener, something to really latch onto. “Caffeine & Alcohol” is one of those songs that begs to be seen live. I’ve never had the chance to see Kat and the Hurricane perform but I truly hope that changes soon.
