Indie-pop, pop-punk– whatever you want to call it, “average” by Huddersfield, UK group LONG ISLAND is great and more than worth your attention. It hooks you instantly with a catch drum beat before the accent-heavy vocals come and and take this song to where it belongs. Throughout this track, there are catchy and memorable lines of lyrics and the chorus is so infectious that it’s almost obnoxious.
I found the vocals to be super interesting. Beyond the heavy accent, the tone of them is almost unnaturally high but it feels so natural and not forced in any way, shape, or form. This really sets this song apart from others in the genre. All in all, this is a fun bop that is absolutely one of those “pick me up” songs that will come in handy about half way through a long work day. Hell, this song is good whenever you just need to dance it out a wee bit.
