It’s Friday but I’m not in a very Friday mood. I’m motivated and full of energy but something just doesn’t feel right about the day yet. That all changed as soon as “Home Run” from When The Sun Sets started playing.
An example of pop-punk perfection, this song hit the spot and gave me that burst of energy that I had missing this morning. Lyrically, this song is your typical pop-punk tale of all of the pressure put on us as humans and trying to find the motivation to keep pushing through said pressure. Instrumentally, this song is full of explosive guitars and drums and emotive lyrics that hit right to the core. Seriously, I mean it when I say this song is pop-punk perfection. There are clear nods to the pop-punk classics like New Found Glory but also nods to some of the heavier acts in the scene like Four Year Strong with almost breakdown feeling breaks throughout the track. Make sure to listen all the way through because something truly gorgeous happens around the 2:05 mark that you just have to hear for yourself. Sing along, cry along, dance along– there are so many ways to interpret this song but I hope it gives you the burst of energy it gave me in the end.
