This week has been a whirlwind. I went to Chicago to see Finch (one of my all time favorite bands), turned around and came home, and went to see Blink 182. Like I said, a whirlwind and I’ve been so busy trying to catch up on work that I honestly haven’t had much time to check out new music but I need that feeling I get from some amazing new tracks so I’m putting everything on hold for a couple of minutes to check out “BMI” from Midcard.

“BMI” is the lead single from Midcard’s EP ‘Forgivenessness’ and, as soon as I started listening to this track, I knew that I was going to check out this full EP. Stylistically, this song is a bit of that new-school pop-punk vibe with a hint of Spanish Love Songs but it also has an almost old school Limbeck style. I love the way that the vocals rise and fall with a sense of aggression throughout this song but never quite burst into a full chaotic or in-your-face moment. The intensity in the instrumentation matches this vibe with some truly stellar guitar solos that pop in and out throughout this three-and-a-half-minute long song. This track and subsequent EP is a bit of a comeback for Midcard as the last show they played previously was back in 2019. I may not have known them before hearing this track but I am surely glad they are back and can’t wait to see what else this band has up their sleeves.
