Just reading the title of this track, I knew that there was going to be a sense of power and emotion that comes with Quite Yourself’s debut single from their upcoming EP. I mean, come on, “Stung Out and Grinding Your Teeth”… come on! Maybe you can’t relate with these exact words but I think we can all relate to the sentiment behind them so let’s jump into this song and see if it has the power I’m imagining.
Although the guitar and drum sounds that kick off this track are a bit lighter than I was expecting, the vocals absolutely brought the sense of heaviness that I expected from this track. It’s not just in the delivery of the words but also in the choice of words. Sure, things amp up throughout this song creating a perfect post-punk meet pop-punk sound but it never quite hit the intensity that I had been expecting when it comes to the instrumentation of this song. Even with that in mind, this song hits hard and pulls right at your heartstrings. There’s something so raw about the vocals throughout this song but there’s this moment of gang vocals about a minute and a half into the track that just really hit me hard. This is the kind of song that demands your attention but also allows you time to get lost in your own thoughts and almost let them spill out into the track. What I’m trying to say is that you just need to hear “Strung Out and Grinding Your Teeth” from Quit Yourself.
