Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you all had an amazing weekend. I definitely did and today has been a struggle so far to say the least but I’m optimistic that it will get better and that’s because of all of the amazing “new” music I have to share with you today starting with “Lights” from RISE ABOVE. I say “new” in quotations because this track actually came out nine months ago but it’s new to me so I’m sure it’s new to some of you as well.
RISE ABOVE wastes no time in hitting you with a wall of sound when it comes to this track. Right off the bat, I want to compare this to bands like Senses Fail and The Used but it’s so much more than that. Sure, there’s that nostalgic sense of angst that you get from bands like those but there’s also something fresh and polished about it. The blend of vocals throughout this track is what really caught me. They are not as shouted as I typically go for but they hold the same amount of energy and aggression that always hooks me. When you mix that up with the extremely emotive instrumentation, you are left with a super powerful song both sonically and emotionally. Long story short, “Lights” will make you feel things and, on a Monday where I feel like every work email has me feeling more and more drained, it’s just what I needed.
