This year is the first time in many years where I am spending my Halloween in. I typically have a show but between the holiday and the first snow we got last night, I just feel like staying in and handing out candy. So here I am– waiting for the trick or treaters while trying to hold myself back from eating all of the candy I bought. I need a distraction in the form of some new music.
Out of all of the tracks I’ve shared with you today, I have yet to find a pop-punk-perfect one but that changes with “Small” from Omernac. I mean, you hear it right off the bat on this track. It’s a classic pop-punk sound with slamming drums, melodic guitars, a steady bass, and infectious lyrics. There’s a sweetness in this track but the shock and surprise comes from finding out that Omernac is a solo project. Omernac comes from a lo-fi beat background which would explain the sweet and cozy nature of this track but clearly grew up listening to the great pop-punk bands of years gone by. This song has it all and it’s expertly crafted while keeping a raw DIY vibe behind it (just like all good pop-punk). Long story short, it may have taken all day to hit the pop-punk-perfect track of the day but Omernac definitely hit it right on the head.
