“Oh No, I Hope I Don’t Fall” was described to me as a petty breakup jam. I read that to mean angst and energy with a hint of emotion and pain– essentially right up my alley but, as I hit play on this song from Smooth Brain, I got so much more.
There’s a sense of depth to this song that I found irresistible. Although it’s overall a super standard anthemic pop-punk track with emo tendencies, the vocals came off as silky smooth but with an undeniable edge to them. Same can be said about the instrumentation. It’s not that in your face or aggressive but the amount of power that comes with every beat throughout this song is staggering. The chorus of this track is just the freaking best. It’s catchy and has a bit of a bounce to it but with fairly deep lyrics tha seem to be completely opposite the overall vibe.
I had never heard Smooth Brain’s name before hearing this track but, after listening to “Oh No, I Hope I Don’t Fall” no less than a dozen times on repeat, I can’t wait to see what else his band has out there.
