Although it’s sunny here in Minneapolis today, it’s cold and we are all still trying to shovel out from the blizzard last night. Thankfully, Crocodiles’ “Love Beyond The Grave” is here to help give me all of the sunny California vibes that I so desperately want right now.
This is a classic punk rock song with a bit of a surf rock attitude to it. The video is set in what I can only assume to be sunny California which adds a super bright twist to this grungy track. “Love Beyond The Grave” has dark lyrical content behind it but you wouldn’t know it unless you really paid attention to the words. As Charles Rowell (one half of the duo that is Crocodiles) put it, “Amidst all the chaos of life there is one certain truth – that we will all die. Being a fan of heavy metal and books by such writers as Anne Sexton and Allen Ginsberg, I find it quite comforting to write about death. I probably have more t-shirts with skulls on them then I do any other article of clothing. I’ve lost many friends and most of my immediate family and the train never stops moving from station to station. The lyrics follow a person who’s scared by the living and revisits past haunts in an attempt to distort normality and find true love with the spirits that inhabit this world; from hometowns to historic street corners.”
This is a super fun track with a heart and soul behind it that cannot be put into words so turn up the volume and let “Love Beyond the Grave” take over your entire being.
