My head is all over the place this morning after receiving a text from an old boss. It was a good text, don’t get me wrong, but it has my head spinning and honestly I feel like I’ve been on the verge of tears ever since as I try to sort through all of my thoughts that I was left with. I need to get my head back into the game which means it’s time to take a deep dive into some new music starting with “Black Pixie (On The Edge)” from Miss Fortune.
As soon as the screaming guitars got this song started, my head was back. The infectious beat had my head bobbing and, as the vocals came in, they seemed to whisk me away in a gorgeous way. With post-hardcore vibes but more melodic vocals than one would expect with the heaviness of the instrumentation, I instantly loved the groove of this song. There’s an almost jazzy influence that can be heard throughout this song even though it’s subtle. “Lush” is typically a word I use for more indie and pop influenced songs but I feel like it’s a great description for everything going on throughout this song from Miss Fortune. From beautiful layers to the super clear and emotive vocals, “Black Pixie (On The Edge)” is one of those “you just need to hear it for yourself” kind of songs.
