Okay, you may push play on Charlie Vaughan’s “The Director” and think I have completely lost it. Honestly, that would be fair as it is so different from what I typically share out but, hear me (and this song) out!

“The Director” has an interesting story. This is a direct quote from Charlie Vaughan about the song, “I was watching documentaries on different filmmakers and some of their weird and dangerous techniques. Whilst terrible revelations were revealed I started strumming E to A, E to A over and over. The words soon followed which I sung at a low octave so I could still hear the narrator and continue writing whilst I watched.” Okay, have I gotten your attention yet? Honestly, the combination of the continuous back and forth on the guitar and the strangely low but poppy vocals creates such a cool sound and vibe that I could not ignore. There’s almost something psychedelic about this song overall and that is only put into the spotlight more due to the fuzzy an grainy recording quality of the song. It’s not an aggressive or in-your-face kind of song but, for a day when the sun is shining and it’s hotter than hell (okay, it’s not really but it’s supposed to be over 80 degrees in Minneapolis today which is bizarre), “The Director” is the perfect song!
