A lot of the bands that I obsessed over back in the day or gone. Either they broke up, went a different direction musically, or just drifted off into the sunset. That’s why I am so excited about “Poison Pill” from Silverstein. This song came out just a month ago proving that Silverstein has the staying power I believed they had way back when I got hooked on them in the early 2000s.
Like a good wine, Silverstein is just getting better with age. This song both nods to their past as kings of the emo scene and gives new life to their storied career. Instead of just staying the same old band, I feel like you get a sense of maturity in this song. That’s not to say you don’t get the same intensity that Silverstein has had since day one but there’s just something a bit more thought out about “Poison Pill” that truly just shows this band’s growth. Full of groove and infectious beats along with their signature emotionally charged vocals, this song is truly just perfect. Can you tell that I’m fan-girling a little bit about this one? Even if you had written this band off back in the day (lord only knows why you would) or just never got into them, this song is absolutely flawless and more than worth your attention today (and every day for that matter).
