There for a little bit, I was finding a lot of amazing music based out of Germany. Now it seems like it has been all about the east coast. Although I’ve been to NYC and DC, I’ve never really spent a lot of time on the east coast but after hearing “Idiota Blanco” from Baltimore based MEAN SEA, I think I will have to change that very soon.

This song is half in your face and half chill in a super cool way. Right off the bat, you get an almost surf-rock styled guitar part before vintage feeling vocals come in and take this track over. It’s a bit Ludo meets The Strokes meets Reverend Horton Heat. Yeah, it’s all over the place and those three artists may have nothing in common yet those are all threads I got throughout “Idiota Blanco”. This song is fast but never breaches into the furied panic mode that so many punk and rock songs can sometimes fall into. MEAN SEA stays in control throughout this two and a half minute long song is a very professional way.

MEAN SEA is not at all a new band. They have been putting music out for years at this point and the vocalist, Michael Strackbein used to be in The Track Record (classic early 2000s pop-punk band from Drive-Thru Records that I used to obsess over). You can get that seasoned professional vibe when listening to “Idiota Blanco” but it doesn’t come off as being too polished. This song still has an edge that is sure to get you moving and smiling even on the gloomiest of days.
