Somehow it’s already 11AM. I don’t know where the day is going but I would like some of that time back because I have so much to do. My normal playlists of upbeat indie pop hits just aren’t quite hitting the right way to keep me from getting overwhelmed but “Osage” from Systems & Stories absolutely did the trick.

This song is full of power but, more importantly, has a message behind it. This song is about the 1985 bombing of the MOVE compound in Philadelphia in which police allowed a fire to destroy the entire block of Osage Ave. Although I am unfamiliar with that event, knowing that this was the subject matter brought a whole other side to this song and band beyond the sheer power they bring musically. The 3rd single from Systems & Stories’ upcoming ‘In Name Only’ EP, this song blends a little bit of everything heavy to create a unique sound. There are almost prog-rock styled structures throughout this song but also a more standard metalcore vibe at times. Regardless of what the instrumentation is doing, the vocals soar high above and really grab your ears. They are smooth and quite peaceful when taken away from the brutality of the instrumentation. All together, this creates a sound that is purely Systems & Stories and a sound that I absolutely want more of.
