I love odd genre blends. Whether it’s country-fused metal or pirate-styled punk– I’m here for it so, of course I was intrigued by 93feetofsmoke’s new song “conversations” when it was pitched to me as being a blend of trap rock and pop-punk
It takes a second for the pop-punk influence to come through in this track but that doesn’t mean that this song won’t catch you right at the beginning. With a heart felt intro leaning more into the cloud-hop vein of things, I instantly fell in love with the raw lyrics. Speaking to the tragedy that is addiction and other mental health issues that plague us all, I felt like the rawness of the video only enhanced what is happening throughout this track. I also feel like the heaviness of this song comes through as you hear the song move from a more standard pop-punk vibe to a more intense trap rock feeling. The transition is oddly subtle but, when you catch onto it, it’s a huge swing in the song that is brilliantly done. Sure, you could compare this song to everyone else that is trying to capitalize on the hotness of the MGK sound but, truly, 93feetofsmoke is doing his own thing and with an undeniable sense of passion. Keep your eyes on this kid. I expect huge things.
