I needed something heavy this afternoon. I don’t know why but the indie-pop playlist that has been swirling around my house just isn’t doing it for me anymore today. Thankfully, the next single I had on my list to check out was “Vacant” from Saving Face and it was just what I needed.
This melodic hardcore song with emo and alt-rock tendencies scattered throughout comes off as undoubtedly powerful. The vocals have an almost hardcore feel to them at times but, overall, the grinding guitars keep this in the more metalcore side of things. I don’t know what is in the water in Australia or even what is really going on over there but the perfection of the aggression an emotion in this song left me absolutely floored. The epic breakdown that kicks off right around the 1:50 mark was definitely my favorite part of the song but there really wasn’t a single moment throughout the nearly four minute long song where I wasn’t completely entranced by what was going on. Saving Face has a sense of power to their sound but also a sense of perfection when it comes to all of the layers in this song and how they lay together. Sure, this is loud and aggressive but there’s an attention to detail throughout this song that really made it stand out to me.
