I love songs with twists and turns but I feel like even saying that about “No More Drugs” from Swiss Army Wife doesn’t do this song justice.
The song starts off with a very modern-punk feeling. With a very PUP vs. Joyce Manor vibe, I instantly fell in love with the emotive vocals and powerful instrumentation of this song. Although it definitely is modern, it has an old school vibe to it that comes to fruition just about thirty seconds in. This song quickly takes a turn to something a bit more grainy and intense before quickly shifting back into the comfortability and accessibility of the beginning. I thought that this little freak out was going to be the main part of the song that jumped out at me but it wasn’t. There’s another giant shift about a minute and a half in where everything falls down in the best way possible. A moment of pure clarity and beauty, this twist definitely caught me off guard but I loved the juxtaposition of this calmness when compared to not only the modern-punk feeling of the beginning, but even that major freaking out towards the beginning of the song. I’m not going to tell you how this one ends as the ups and downs are what makes this journey amazing but I will tell you to check out this band and show them some love.
